FAQs

What is midlife, exactly?

The official numbers are between the ages of 35 and 65, but the issues of midlife can begin with any loss, even in one’s 20’s. At the time of loss, priorities begin to change, and healthy people begin a search for meaning.

How do I know that I might need therapy?

If you have tried to solve a problem on your own and cannot, if the issue is affecting your daily life and happiness, if you need an objective take on an issue,  or if you feel that you are no longer enjoying life, then you could benefit from therapy.

How long does it take?

Many people enjoy a long term relationship with a therapist who knows them intimately and can help them ride through life’s changes. But most of my clients who are in crisis or feeling stuck find vast improvement after five or six sessions, and are welcome to leave and return at anytime. There is no long term obligation.

Do you take insurance?

No. I charge reasonable rates instead.

What methods do you use?

I have been trained in many models of therapy, and use a combination that is right for you. Mostly I use cognitive solution-based therapy, with an emphasis on uncovering and reframing damaging thoughts.

Do you prescribe drugs?

Counselors are not licensed to prescribe; however, we can usually tell you whether or not you should be talking to a doctor about anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, or other medications.
